Dr. Karl Meyer

Dr. Karl Meyer was a UW-Superior president. It wasn’t known as UW-Superior in his day, though, instead it was Superior State University. Before his inauguration as president, Meyer had many accomplishments. He fought in World War II as a member of the Army Air Force, after earning a college degree he taught at multiple universities, and he was one of the first five educators that was selected to be a member of the prestigious Carnegia Fellows on College Administration at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Meyer was president at UW-Superior for 23 years. At the end of his presidency Kenneth Shaw, the then UW-System president, stated, “For more than two decades Chancellor Meyer has provided very effective leadership for the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He has kept his spirit in good times and in bad. He has left his mark.”
