Joe Long's Friends
The Joe Long Leadership Scholarship was established in 1968 by the Superior State University (now UW-Superior) by a student committee under the support of the Student Government and SSU Foundation (now the UW-Superior Foundation). This was done to honor Joe after his passing.
Joe Long was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, vice president of the United Council of the Wisconsin State University System, and vice president of the Student Senate. John H. Eaton, director of Field Services at SSU stated in 1968 that, “Joe Long was admired by those students who had the opportunity to be associated with him. He contributed in many ways to developing a spirit of optimism at SSU. It was through the leadership of Joe Long that the student body of SSU progressed from a campus of small ideas to a university of accomplishments.”
