Lambda Sigma Lambda Scholarship
The Lambda Sigma Lambda scholarship was established in 2005 by the Lambda Sigma Lambda and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority alumni and friends. In 1914, forty-five young women in the Superior State Normal School’s two-year college course formed the Lambda Sigma Literary Society to study the best of contemporary literature. During the 1915-16 school year, we know that they studied the stories and lives of De Maupassant, Harte, Aldrich, London, Tolstoy, and Van Dyke—a formidable list!
A history of the sororities was compiled in 2004 for a 90th Anniversary reunion in Superior. Another reunion took place in Superior in 2014, in honor of the 100th anniversary. The Lambdas and Tri Sigmas had many traditions over the years, including a winter formal, a service project, homecoming and Sno-Week royalty, and more. The Sigma Sigma Sigma charter was returned to the national headquarters in 1974, thus ending the sorority’s activity at UW-Superior.
