Reverend William Wenninger

Reverend William Wenninger

The Reverend William Wenninger joined UW-Superior’s faculty in 1970 and taught philosophy, retiring in 1995. During his 25 years of teaching, Reverend Wenninger worked hard to help students understand and appreciate this critical part of their liberal arts education. Once he retired, he continued his effort by making gifts to the UW-Superior Foundation to bring famed scholar and author Stephen J. Gould to campus.

“The humanities are the foundation for a liberal arts education,” stated Wenninger. “My hope is to challenge people to think and to encourage examination of new ideas.” Wenninger wrote in a 1995 essay, “exploration of the liberal arts, history, philosophy, political science, sociology, will come alive when students recognize what these disciplines may have for their future.”
